Hanging Rock
Hanging Rock, located in the southwest corner of Redfield, has 469 acres along the Middle and South Raccoon Rivers. Featuring a massive outcrop of sandstone rock, Hanging Rock is steeped in history. The area just downstream was a ford used by wagon trains heading west during the mid-1800s.
The south half of the park is open to hunting and has a 10-acre wetland, with prairie and savanna along the Middle Raccoon River. The north half is a refuge with a park, featuring an astronomical rock clock, shelter house with fireplace, modern restrooms, and a spur to the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Hanging Rock is near the Redfield Dam and several canoe/kayak access points.
